Kamakhya Temple

The Kamakhya Temple of Assam is certainly one of the holiest temples of India. A visit to this revered temple is believed to fulfil all the desires of a true devotee. One of the 51 Shakti Peethas, Sati’s genitalia had fallen at this very spot thus making it a mighty spot for worshipping the Goddess. The deity of the Kamakhya Temple is legendary as the bleeding Goddess. Every year, the Goddess undergoes her menstrual cycle for three days beginning from the seventh day of the month of Ashar or June.

Umananda

Umananda, the Smallest Riverine Island in the World, is a Shaivites dream come true. Devotees from all over the country assemble here during Shivaratri. One can visit this island crossing by the country boat plying regularly.

Vashistha Ashram

Vashistha Ashram, established by the great sage Vashistha on the Sandhyachal Hill, is another place of pilgrimage. Three rivulets Sandhya, Kanta and Lalita meet here, bestowing the Ashram a unique charm amidst idyllic natural panorama.

Sankardeva Kalakshetra:

On the riverbank, the Shukleswar Ghat Temple-cum- Park is another picturesque spot. One can also cruise on the river Brahmaputra in an extravagant river ferry. The Sankardev Udyan, Nehru Park, Dighalipukhuri, Gandhi Mandap, State Museum, State Zoo- cum- Botanical Garden and the Planetarium can also extend the tourists’ pleasure. A visit to the Sankardeva Kalakshetra, a cultural centre of solitary character, may also enhance tourists’ interest and knowledge of Assam, its art and culture.

Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden

The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is the largest zoo in Northeast India, located in Guwahati's Hengrabari Reserve Forest. Established in 1957, it houses over 113 species of animals, birds, and reptiles, and includes a botanical garden, museum, and reptile house. Known as the "Green Lung" of the city, it serves as a center for conservation, education, and responsible tourism, and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

Sualkuchi

Sualkuchi is just 32 km west of Guwahati. Assam's silk industries are located here. Known as Muga (golden) and Pat (white) silk, it is exported to Japan and other countries. Karnataka silk is also used here to manufacture various varieties of silk products. The units are all handloom. A Muga (golden) silk sari costs Rs 8,500 to 10,000 while the white variety (Pat) costs only Rs 4,000 to 6,000 for a sari.
